Seasonal Affective Disorder SAD or the Winter Blues, is recognized by Doctors as a medical condition
Symptoms of SAD can include a persistent low mood, irritability, feeling lethargic, sleeping for longer than normal and finding it hard to get up in the morning , a loss of pleasure or interest in normal everyday activities and craving carbohydrates . These symptoms can be severe and have a significant impact on day-to-day activities.
Some people with SAD find that light therapy can help improve their mood considerably.
Our daylight therapy lamps are easy to use and can be easily integrated into your everyday life.
During use, you can carry out your usual activities such as reading, working or eating
Light therapy using a daylight therapy lamp can generally be carried out as often as desired
For effective use, it should be used for at least seven consecutive day
Although light therapy is at least as effective as antidepressant medications for treating seasonal affective disorder, it doesn’t work or isn’t appropriate for everyone.
Please note - exposure to very bright light may not be suitable if you have an eye condition or eye damage that makes your eyes particularly sensitive to light
If you are taking medication that increases your sensitivity to light, such as certain antibiotics and antipsychotics, or the herbal supplement St John's Wort
It's best to talk with your health care provider about choosing and using a light therapy box.
